“I have a confession to make,” I recently told audience members at the Social Enterprise Kent annual conference at Turner Contemporary in Margate, “this isn't my first social enterprise.”

My first social enterprise was a social success and a financial failure. After seven years of enabling people facing severe barriers to work to move towards creative careers, in 2016 we were staring into the abyss of bankruptcy.

What happens if you take time to stop and listen – really listen – to nature near you? That's what I asked people living near Poole, Dorset to do in two pilot Ear to the Waves workshops supported by Artful Scribe and Southampton Univerisity. Adults and young people 11 years and upwards were invited to join me to explore the Hamworthy coastline and respond creatively in written or spoken word.

In our work for The Health Foundation over more than two years, we're constantly inspired by individuals and organisations working to not only improve health and care but to find ways to create a better future for us all.

Jess has been supporting the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare to write several blogs for Q, most recently highlighting some of the amazing work happening to cut carbon, bring down waiting lists and improve the patient experience. Programme manager Rachel McLean says:

"SusQI has been shown to inspire and motivate staff while also achieving changes that have real potential to reduce service delivery pressures."

Guest review by Cheri Allcock, MA Fine Art graduate 2023

Last Friday The Margate School opened its doors for ‘Enchanted Things’, the culmination of a two-year project in which seven artists on the Art Nature Society MA programme would come together to show their work as one celestial body.

The opening was lively, with us artists buzzing around relieved, jubilant and deliriously tired, while visitors moved through the show with small rocks on the ground to lead them around the artworks. A lot of our show is based on the ground and takes the audience through different spaces and heights, asking one to look up, down and around.

The Thanet Youth Network has recently published a guide for young people and the organisations that support them to find out about the wealth of opportunities, facilities and support available in the district.

Co-Relate and Margate Bookie are part of the Thanet Youth Network - a group of creative and cultural organisations across Thanet that develop projects and opportunities for young people - and feature in the new guide.
